Impact in Listed Assets

About

Mobilising listed markets for genuine environmental and social impact requires moving well beyond performance attribution and risk pricing. MRC’s work in this area addresses a foundational question in sustainable finance: how can investment strategies in listed assets generate measurable, additional real-world impact — and how can that impact be rigorously assessed?

Through its partnership with the Impact Investing Chair at ENSAE Paris, MRC supports a research programme at the frontier of financial theory, environmental economics, and sociology. The work examines shareholder engagement as a lever for ecological transition, the conditions under which listed investment strategies achieve additionality, and the challenges of reconciling climate objectives with broader environmental and social imperatives.

Ensae

MRC supports the Impact Investing Chair at ENSAE Paris — the first chair backed by the ENSAE-ENSAI Foundation. Led by Professors Peter Tankov and Olivier David Zerbib at CREST, ENSAE’s research center in economics, statistics, finance, and sociology, the chair explores a foundational question in sustainable finance: how to assess and foster real-world impact generation through listed-asset investment strategies. Its scientific programme is structured around two main research areas — impact investing with an ambition of additionality, encompassing shareholder engagement and net-zero alignment, and impact investing beyond climate, reconciling complementary environmental objectives with social imperatives
